Volunteer Opportunities
Docent Corps
Members of the Laguna Art Museum Docent Corps provide tours for visitors and school groups and serve as ambassadors of art within the Museum. The docents seek to engage and enlighten Museum visitors by conducting interactive tours and gallery activities, as well as working within the community to help increase an understanding about visual arts. The docent provisional class takes place at Laguna Art Museum once a year for a 6-month class period. Training sessions are held one morning per week, with an introductory information session where the philosophy and expectations of becoming a Laguna Art Museum docent are explained. Provisional docents are taught a variety of lessons including: the elements of art, historical context, looking and talking about art, engaging visitors and speaking, touring with children, and more!
In addition, provisional docents are invited to participate in the Docent Corps’ events and field trips. All docents must be current Laguna Art Museum members. For more information on becoming a LAM docent, please contact the Jackie Bunge at 949.494.8971 x207 between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (PT), Monday through Friday.

Museum Store
Do you have some spare time, like the arts, and love to read? Do you want to give back to the community, know more about the artistic legacy of Laguna Beach, Orange County, and California? Are you interested in speaking with people about the arts in an informal environment? Do you like to make sales, can use a computer?
If so, Laguna Art Museum needs you to help staff the Museum Store. You must be available between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., or between the hours of 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. For more information on becoming involved as a Museum Store Volunteer contact Mike Stice at 949.494.8971 x200.
Events
Volunteer at our special events! This involves various things depending on the event. It can mean working at the registration desk, helping with an art auction, selling raffle tickets, assisting the caterers, serving champagne, etc.
It's always a lively and festive environment, and you are always working together with other volunteers, so it's always a lot of fun! This is a great area for volunteers who can only work in the evenings or on weekends. Please contact Derry Coe, Volunteer Coordinator at 949.488.0135.
Administrative
Assist our administrative staff in the office! We need people who are willing to do filing, help with mailings, etc. Assignments vary, and if you have a specific skill in a certain area, we try to keep that in mind. For this area, you need to be available during the day on weekdays. This volunteer position is ideal for high school groups looking to fulfill community service hours for graduation. Please contact Derry Coe, Volunteer Coordinator at 949.488.0135.
Internships
Laguna Art Museum currently offers unpaid internships on a year-round basis for college students or recent college graduates. If you are interested in interning at Laguna Art Museum please submit a cover letter, resume, and art history-related writing sample to Jackie Bunge, Curator of Education. Please specify which department you are interested in: Curatorial, Membership, Education, Marketing/PR, Collections, Events, or Development.
"The museum only shifts exhibitions once every few months, but no two days here feel the same. As an intern under the Curator of Collections/Registrar, I learned the importance of juggling various tasks every day, often simultaneously. From researching and cataloging to hands-on experience with works of art, my experiences here have been both diverse and essential to understanding the inner workings of the museum world."
~ Amanda, Summer 2009 Intern
