Exhibition Curator
Purpose and Scope
The Museum's exhibition curator develops and oversees all exhibition programs of the institution. The exhibition curator works with the Museum’s director, board of trustees, and development director on funding exhibitions. The exhibition curator at Laguna Art Museum is integral to creating, implementing, and coordinating exhibitions and related programs that contribute to the dialogue on California art as it relates to the rest of the world.
Responsibilities and Duties:
In conjunction with the curatorial staff, prepares the curatorial budget and reports monthly variances.
Work with the development team, trustees, and director in soliciting funds for exhibitions.
Writes works with the curatorial staff on proposals and grants to procure exhibition, collections, and education funding.
Supervises the organization and maintenance of all records and correspondence relating to exhibitions, collections, and education.
Cultivates new collectors and maintains relationships with collectors.
Acts as a liaison between the Historical Art Council and the Contemporary Art Council.
Is the staff liaison with the Exhibitions Committee and presents the exhibition program to the board. Prepares necessary exhibitions information as needed.
Organizes and coordinates Museum exhibitions (in-house and traveling).
Curates exhibitions with a focus on the art of California .
Seeks works of art to add to the permanent collection.
Responsible for coordinating the exhibition schedule, including the procurement and securing of traveling exhibitions.
Develops and designs exhibitions with an awareness of current art issues and Museum practices.
Is responsible for the traveling exhibition program of the Museum.
Supervises installation staff, curatorial interns, and volunteers in addition to working with the curator of collections, education curator, curatorial assistant, interns and volunteers in the carrying out of day-to-day activities of the curatorial department.
Educates the community about the art through public lecturing and the writing of catalogues and brochures. Works with the education curator on presenting information regarding exhibitions to schools.
Works with the Curator of Collections/Registrar to in producing scholarly interpretations of objects in the permanent collection.
Is responsible for the production of all exhibition related publications.
Is responsible for the traveling exhibition program of the Museum.
Prepares written materials for the publicist, curator of education and the development office, as needed, to aid in the dissemination of information about exhibitions for the purposes of publicity, education, and fundraising.
Capabilities and experience required:
experience as a museum curator
degree in art history, preferably in American art
excellent writing, presentation, communication, organizational, computer skills
a collaborative and hands on approach to accomplishment
Compensation:
The compensation package consists of base salary ( based on experience), generous benefits.

Education Curator
Purpose and Scope:
The Museum's education curator develops and oversees all educational programs of the institution. The education curator works under the direction of the Museum director and is integral to developing a public understanding of the role that the art and artists of California have in shaping American art.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. The education curator develops, implements, evaluates, and supervises all
Museum educational programs.
2. The education curator supervises docent training on the permanent collection, new exhibitions, and touring.
3. The education curator develops, manages, and tracks the department budget.
4. The education curator writes grants and assists in writing the educational components of large grants.
5. The education curator works with the development department on funding opportunities including meeting with individual potential supporters about educational programs.
6. The education curator makes public presentations and presentations to the board of trustees, staff, and members of the Museum as needed.
7. The education curator attends Museum related functions and orchestrates weekend educational activities as needed.
8. The education curator is the staff liaison with the education committee and meets periodically with the docent council.
9. The education curator works closely with the curatorial team in a collaborative effort to promote the mission of the Museum.
10. The education curator develops and supervises art programs directed at the Laguna Beach and greater Orange County school system.
Capabilities and experience required:
experience as a museum educator or in a museum curatorial department preferred
degree in art history, preferably in American art
excellent writing, presentation, communication, organizational, computer skills
a collaborative and hands on approach to accomplishment
Compensation:
The compensation package consists of base salary ($36-$40 based on experience), generous benefits.
