PAST EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
Sunday, October 11
Paint Out at Treasure Island Park, South Laguna
50 artists from across the country invited to participate in the week-long Invitational created study paintings for the event’s new feature Trust
Your Plein Sight. These were 8x10" study paintings available for sale at $300 each. The buyers had to trust their instincts, because only after the purchase was the artist's name revealed. These pieces were on display at Laguna Art Museum
during the week, and went on sale the evening of the Collectors'
Soirée and Sale.
Monday, October 12 - Friday, October 16
Beginning Monday morning, October 12, the artists painted throughout the area: on the beach, in the canyons, throughout the streets of the city, and continued through Thursday, October 15. The public was encouraged to view the painters during the week as they created the very paintings which were hang in Laguna Art Museum. By Friday morning the artists chose three paintings from among the works they completed during the week to be offered at the Collectors' Soirée and Sale Saturday evening.
Saturday, October 17
Quick Draw at Heisler Park and Silent Auction at the Museum
On Saturday morning, all 50 artists participated in a Quick Draw
held in Heisler Park, overlooking the Pacific Ocean and immediately
adjacent to the Museum. Under the gaze of hundreds of onlookers,
artists had just two hours to complete a work of art. The works were then moved to the Museum and immediately auctioned. Over 500 people attended the auction. This was a great
chance for the public to see all of the master painters in action, select
their favorite artist, watch the paintings being created, and then
purchase the paintings in the auction.
Collectors' Soirée and Sale
Over 200 guests attended the Collectors' Soirée and
Sale at Laguna Art Museum. Attendees at this event had the first
chance to view and to purchase, in advance of the general public, the
art works created throughout the week including the $300 Trust Your
Plein Sight paintings. This was a great chance for collectors and
artists to meet and mingle over cocktails, delicious food provided by Las Brisas, and live
music. Awards including Artist's Choice, Collector's Choice, SouthwestArt Quick Draw and the
Edward H. Boseker Award were presented that evening.
Sunday, October 18
Public Art Show and Sale
The Museum was free to visitors and welcomed over 650 guests who had the
opportunity to view and purchase paintings by the participating
artists. The painters replaced works that sold during the
Collectors' Soirée with other paintings. Hundreds of plein air
aficionados attended this public exhibition and sale.
10th Annual Plein Air Painting Invitational
Laguna Art Museum, in association with the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, hosted another great year of plein air painting in Laguna Beach!
The event began the morning of October 18 with a Quick Draw sponsored by Southwest Art. The fifty artists were given only two hours to create a new work using Laguna Beach and Heisler Park as their inspiration. This year’s works utilized various different subjects, from models, to the pristine coastline, to local businesses along Coast Highway. Although the works varied in subject and technique, each piece represented Laguna Beach to the fullest.
