Auction 2009
On Saturday, February 28, 2009, Laguna Art Museum presented Auction 100—featuring works from premiere Southern California artists.
The slowdown in the economy created some unique opportunities in terms of acquiring great art. Artists in this year’s Auction made work available that they have not been able to for years due to a past shortage of inventory. Many artists gave prime work to Auction 100 that is rare to find at a museum auction. Not only was the quality of this year’s work astounding, but the Museum itself looked beautiful. Due to the hard work of Events Director Marnie Wall, as well as many volunteers, the décor, entertainment, and ambiance of the event were fantastic.
Shortly after 6:00 p.m., guests began to arrive and enjoyed a delicious selection of dinner items from Las Brisas, while drinks were provided by beverage sponsor Grolsch Beer. At 6:30 p.m., Director of Laguna Art Museum Bolton Colburn, Curator of Exhibitions Grace Kook-Anderson, and Education Curator Jacqueline Bunge, gave informal tours of their favorite pieces
Guests continued to enjoy the evening as, one by one, silent auction galleries began to close. The live auction was an energy-filled, exhilarating event. Spirited bidding was had by many Museum members and guests.
Auction 100 grossed $100,000.00. Proceeds from the event go to support Museum exhibitions, educational programming, and specific building needs.
