During the second week of October, fifty of the finest plein air painters in the country will travel to Laguna Beach, California to participate in the 10th Annual Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational, the most prestigious event of its kind in the nation.

Their best works will be displayed at the Collectors’ Soirée and Sale held at Laguna Art Museum on Saturday evening, October 18, during which time collectors will have the first opportunity to purchase works of art created by the participating artists. These works may be previewed free of charge on Saturday between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm.

Art and nature lovers are invited to participate by watching the artists at their easels during the Southwest Art Quick Draw on Saturday, October 18 from 9:00 am to 11:00am.  Held in Heisler Park and Main Beach, adjacent to the Museum, the 50 participating artists have only two hours to complete a work of art.  The works will then be sold at the Collectors’ Soirée and Sale on Saturday night.

The annual Invitational is hosted by Laguna Art Museum and The Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, and benefits both organizations and the artists, showcasing the artistic skills of the invited artists and making their works available to the public. On Sunday, October 19, participating artists will replace the work that was sold on Saturday night and the Museum will be open to the public from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm for the Sunday Sale.

Continuing the local tradition, Laguna Beach has been known worldwide as an art colony since early in the twentieth century attracting thousands of artists and collectors each year.
